Introducing the Hangry Truck: A Mobile Food Market and Street Kitchen by the House, Inc.
The dinner table has always meant more than a meal. It’s where families connect, stories are shared, and strength is passed from one generation to the next. But for too many children and parents today, that table sits empty not by choice, but because the next meal is uncertain.
At The House, Inc., we believe it's time to reclaim the family dinner and with it, the dignity that every human being deserves.
Introducing The HANGRY Truck, The House, Inc.’s mobile food market and street kitchen, built for the neighborhoods too often overlooked and underserved. This isn't charity. It's community-powered justice. It’s meeting families where they are, without judgment, and delivering fresh groceries and hot meals in a way that respects their humanity and restores hope.
We know the stigma that can come with asking for help. Research from Feeding America shows that nearly 60% of food-insecure families feel ashamed when accessing food assistance. That shame is rooted in systems that were never built for them in the first place; systems shaped by long-standing racial, social, and economic inequities.
The HANGRY Truck is different. It’s mobile by design, so we can bring the market to the people; creating a welcoming, dignified experience that treats every family not as a number, but as neighbors. Each stop is part of a growing move to curb hunger, not just with food, but with dignity and community at the center.
Because hunger isn’t just about empty stomachs. It's about missed birthdays, quiet sadness at dinner tables, and parents skipping meals so their kids don’t have to. And behind every statistic is a story, a family doing their best to survive, not asking for a handout, just a fair shot.
"The HANGRY Truck is our protest," says Helen McCormick, Founder and President of The House, Inc. "It’s about more than food, it’s about power, about voice, and about our students standing up to say: ‘We won’t accept hunger as normal.’
We know from studies by the USDA and Urban Institute that when food insecurity is addressed with respect and access, not shame, families thrive. Children do better in school. Health outcomes improve. Communities get stronger.
So today, we ask you to join us in this food fight. not with anger, but with purpose.
Stand with The HANGRY Truck.
Stand for dignity in food access.
And help us bring back something too many families have lost: the simple joy of sitting down together, passing a plate, and saying, we’re going to be okay.
Partner with us. Become a sponsor. Volunteer. Because when we reclaim the family dinner, we restore something even more powerful our shared humanity.
