20th Anniversary

Dear Friends,

This year marks the 20th anniversary of The House, Inc.—two decades of pushing for a future in the very places where others turned away, but we chose to look closer.

Founded on a straightforward premise – when school is out, The House is in – our model redefined the role of out-of-school time.

But we didn’t come this far to only come this far.

Now, The House, Inc. is also integrated into the school day itself, embedded within schools' core strategies to support student retention, high-impact tutoring, mentoring, and comprehensive dropout prevention. In a time when schools are under extraordinary pressure to deliver both academic results and whole-child wellbeing, The House, Inc. is the response.

Accessing The House during the school day isn’t mission drift—it’s mission drive. It is our answer to what the data demands, inside classrooms and in the broader lives of students.

As our mission deepens, so does our impact reflected in initiatives like:

  • The HANGRY Truck — In a society full of blockades, The HANGRY Truck is a standout example of hunger meeting hustle. Driven by student-led activism, it’s more than a mobile food market and street kitchen, it’s a moving force of resilience and community uplift.
  • The EmpowerMEnt® Leadership Institute — Our immersive leadership and youth certification program, in partnership with the University of Virginia Darden School of Business, equips the next generation with bold thinking, creative problem solving, and a bias for action.

In year 20, we still believe what we knew from the start.  The House, Inc. exist to meet young people where they are and walk with them as they lead us toward where we all need to go. Together, let’s push forward their cause of progress.

Sincerely,

Helen McCormick
Founder and President
